Digital Animators has an interview with Giant Killer Robots founding partner and Fantastic 4 VFX Supervisor, Peter Oberdorfer. Giant Killer Robots worked on some 200 effects shots for the film, with 84 people working on post-production at the busiest time.
The interview goes on to talk about the effects for the Human Torch and Dr. Doom, as well as the Manhattan environment and the hardware and software used for creating the effects.

the new video from Nine Inch Nails was directed by David Fincher and produced by Digital Domain. David Fincher had talked about a scene shot entirely in an executives workspace where the office objects come to life. the hard part was finding the right project. for Only - Fincher worked with Digital Domain to create the scene, and it must have been the right project, because the end result is amazing.

the Optimus keyboard. slicker than slick, this keyboard is sleek!
although it’s just a render - it’s a great idea! it uses OLED displays on each of the keys to show different keyboard layouts, different application shortcuts, the list could go on. whatever you wanted to be displayed on the keys - it’s possible.
of course something like this would be way too expensive to produce now. but we can only hope in the future that OLED (or other display technologies) will make this possible.
on a related note, Art Lebedev Studio also have some really great wallpapers.

old news now (from June 10, 2005) but still impressive. (and i just happened across it now :P)
a universal binary of modo was all ready & running on the Intel-based Macs only 20 minutes after Steve announced it at WWDC!
“We had a programmer working on this immediately following Apple’s announcement and within 20 minutes modo was not only compiled as a universal binary but actually running on the Intel-based Macs,” said Brad Peebler, president of Luxology. “modo’s development structure means there is no migration path to an Intel-based Mac. We’re already there.”

this new 60 second spot for Adidas is very impressive. some great VFX work in here.

If you had to find a new way to represent the raw energy, the elemental skills, and the essence of the combat that takes place on a football field, how would you go about it?
check the link for the 60 second spot as well as a few hi-res images.

interviews galore!!
this time it’s back to a regular text interview, with the creator of the excellent short film BV-01, Alessandro Pacciani.
Alessandro Pacciani
I’ve talked about BV-01 with the Police officers in the Florence streets, they know that I’ve filmed them for my CG film, and they like a lot my idea about the robotic unit and ask me a lot of questions, I’ve wasted a lot of time for answer them all (ahahaha)
It’s unusual that a guy goes around the streets of Florence with a camcorder while filming the police officers.
make sure you check out BV-01 if you haven’t seen it already. it’s definitely a must-see!

Robert Sanchez has managed to get a 40 minute exclusive video interview with the President of Marvel, Avi Arad. lots of info on all things Marvel, as well as upcoming movies - Spiderman 3, X-Men 3 and Silversurfer, just to name a few.
the interview is split up (annoyingly) into 6 clips, available at IESB. the 6 clips are provided in WMV format (what are people thinking?!) so i’ve provided a single clip of the entire interview, for your convenience.
it’s encoded in H.264 so you’ll need QuickTime 7 to play it.

Update 03 January ‘06
i no longer have the free web space where i was hosting the full H.264 video. but if anyone wants it - just get in contact with me and i’ll arrange something.
