you may have noticed that there’s a new category in the sidebar on the right of the front page - Who’s visiting Mugget?
i recently found out about gVisit - a site that tracks visitors to your website and then uses Google Maps to show the location of the visitors.
gVisit provides the service free of charge, but it’s limited to only showing the 20 most recent visitors unless you pay a small donation…
but still 20 visitors provides a bit of an interesting map:
so whenever you’re feeling a bit curious - you’ll be able to click the “Check the map” link and see the location of recent mugget viewers.
Jimmy Maidens has been making a “daily picture” over the last few months. well… every few days really. it takes a bit of time to pump out a 3D picture. not quite as quick as drawing a comic like those crazy guys at Wulffmorgenthaler do.
and Jimmy has got a good sense of humor as well… the title of the above picture is “zombie worms love asparagus”.
follow the “Archive” link from the front page:

sand sculptures from Melbourne. posted back in January - but still - impressive work!

Considering just how these images are made, they’re pretty impressive. Jason Kronenwald is the man responsible - the first Gum Blonde was completed in 1996.
Each Gum Blonde is 100% chewed bubblegum on a plywood backing. No paint of dye is used. The colour is inherent to the gum - the mixing of colour takes place inside the mouth during chewing using and endless variety of flavours made by an endless variety of companies. Kronenwald has a dedicated team of chewers and prefers the texture of Trident. However, he does not chew gum himself unless he must.

i don’t know how i never knew of this site before… it’s just simply amazing.
the forums are the really exciting part of this site… you’ve got VFX Challenges and a Gallery. but the most impressive is the Case Studies forum where members post screen caps and even nodetrees of the various shots. very impressive stuff for anyone interested in compositing!
most of this stuff is posted by Aruna from Digital Gypsy, so definitely these are some forums to keep an eye on. and if you are interested in compositing - make sure to hunt down the Shake “nodetree from hell”.
ain’t it beautiful…

Brothers is a 5min 33sec short film by Julio del Rio Hernandez.
“There are millions of machines in the world envisioned by Julio del Rio Hernandez - machines born to work. Machines born, in fact, to die working. When one of these machines refuses to die, a story is born.”
it looks like a very interesting story. can’t wait to watch the whole short.
