Gorillaz - live in hologram

the Gorillaz recently performed at the European MTV Music Awards. that alone isn’t so surprising… until you find out that they were on stage in their cartoon forms. the 4 band members’ cartoon characters were brought on stage with the use of 3D holograms. this was cutting edge technology, never before had this been used as part of a live TV music performance.

during the video you’ll also see two other guys on stage. that’s just De La Soul. :P

werd… Makes me think about the possibility of peeps performing “live” around the world at the same time hahaha

yeah, that’s what some people were worried about… wheather or not the band would actaully be there at each event - or if they’d just pre-record their performance and just be chillin’ in Hawaii while playing all these ‘live’ events over the world. maybe that’s why they had De La Soul there. they’ve gotta at least have someone there live.

The company that supplies the special effects aka the magic foil is called MUSION and the system is called “Eyeliner”…call Simon in UK on 44 7980 301043, their clients include Golliraz BMW, Nike, Mercedes…we used them to beam in Richard Branson for launch of Virginonline.com…cheers, Ben

wow. never really hoped to actually see them. you never see their pictures. unless, of course, you know them like Paula. she’d tell you all, if you can find her.

i think Noodle looks cute tho. she’s got the japanese charm the Gorillaz need. made ‘dirty harry’ look good. ‘dare’ too.

The cartoon band Gorillaz used some oldskool trickery to perform live on stage recently.

Cara Speller, producer of the Gorillaz live extravaganza at the London animation house Passion Pictures, said: “It’s quite old technology. It’s essentially Pepper’s Ghost, which was a Victorian invention of reflection and projection on to mirrors.”

Discussions have been held with ILM to incorporate a more sophisticated technology for the world tour in 2007.

thanks for that info Siddy. But do you mean they’re in discussions with ILM for their 2008 tour? It would be kind of difficult for anyone to hold a 2007 tour now… ;)
