Lemmings - EyeToy style

The Lemmings craze continues on the PS2. The standard game has the usual levels, but EyeToy mode is where it gets interesting.

The PS2 version will also have cross-compatibility with the user made levels from the PSP.

Thanks to David for the heads-up.

G5 Drive Racket - Part 2

Well it’s time for me to take this further and give as many of the details as I can to help warn others of this scammer.

First, the eBay listing I was suckered in by - PowerMac G5 Hard Drive Bracket - add 3 Drives!
Which leads to the next point…

Do not buy from eBay user macjunkiecom!

negative feekback that was more than well deserved.

It also seems that I was going a bit easy on Redux Films, saying that it’s unfortunate that their merchandise is being included with fake goods. Upon further investigation it became clear that they were supplying the fake brackets. That’s right. I paid via PayPal to DSP Films Inc. who happen to be the registrant of ReduxFilms.com, and of course DSPfilms.com. Mr Nelson, I am shocked and appalled.

I don’t know what more to say, except to watch out for these unscrupulous people.

I’ve also filed a claim with eBay and have left negative feedback. We’ll see how much money I can get back…

Lemmings coming to PSP

This is kind of getting away from what PostPixel usually covers - but the 15 year old game Lemmings coming to PSP. Definitely news-worthy.

Yes. It's back.

120 levels are included with the usual 4 difficulty levels. There’s also a Special Mode with 36 new levels for those who want an extra challenge. Lemmings PSP also features customizable levels. That’s right - design and upload your own playable levels. I bet there will be just a few interesting ones…

Keep those little Lemmings under control

Currently scheduled for release on May 23, 2006.

Get A Mac

Apple has some new ads out, so far 6 in total. These ones look pretty good…

I'm a PC. I'm a Mac. We're networking.

The PC and Mac have a little network going, since they speak each others language. But the Mac also speaks the digital camera’s language as well.

Are you a student looking for a cheap laptop? New York city is the place for you! Brand new G5 PowerBooks are going for $200! :o

the PowerBook that crack built

Well, not really. But you can pick up an Apple PowerBook box filled with a nice PowerBook replica made from garbage bag and cardboard, all painted silver, complete with a hand painted Apple logo done in white out.

This is just about as good as the P-P-P-PowerBook prank, although this one didn’t some with Fire Wire! and of course it was an honest kid getting ripped off. But - just goes to show what kind of a PowerBook you get for $200.

G5 Drive Racket

It was early in the year - I had big plans for a new G5 PowerMac setup that would break the 1TB internal storage barrier. I chose to use a G5 Drive Bracket. At $59 the price is good, but being in Australia the price for shipping wasn’t. So I started looking around for somewhere that I could get it a bit cheaper… oh - there’s one on eBay!

Early March and I’d paid for the item, recieving it soon after.

Fast forward to mid-April. I’ve finally gathered all the necessary hardware, and I even had a 4-day weekend to get everything installed! :D  Things were looking good… until I decided to test-fit the drives into the bracket before installing it.

the kit

printed instructions.

Oh. My. Goodness. This bracket was a real shocker. Quality testing? I think a 5 year old child ‘manufactured’ this bracket!  It was loose, there was no tight fit as was described in the installation manual. One side had even been cut short, cutting into a screw hole. This called for a stern email.

nicely manufactured bracket? i think not!

that's just sloppy.

You can see the precision manufacturing…

I had a funny feeling about the bracket since I got it. The G5 Drive Bracket team promptly responded to my email in which I included pictures of the bracket I’d recieved. Now here’s the important part - G5DriveBracket.com does not manufacture brackets from white/opaque polycarbonate! All of their brackets are made from a transparent/clear polycarbonate. The G5 Drive Bracket team also does not ship or use silver screws to mount the drives in the bracket. So - the bracket I’d been sold was a big FAKE! I’ve confirmed these details with them via email.

Obvoiously I was just a bit mad at discovering this. Straight away I ordered a genuine G5 Drive Bracket from the online store, I’d already lost too much time messing about with this fake. I’m in the process of attempting to obtain a refund for this imitation bracket.

So - things to watch out for include:

  • Brackets manufactured from White/coloured/opaque plastic
  • Brackets that are loose-fitting
  • Kits that include silver screws

There was also a business card size CD included in the package that was sent to me with Fantasia on it apparently. Great way to get exposure - team up with the racketeers.
Actually, to be fair, I’m not sure if they’re in league with the scammers, but still - this is an unfortunate bit of exposure for Redux Films.

unfortunate exposure for Redux Films.

I haven’t mentioned the eBay user’s ID, because I really don’t know how they are involved in all this. But their non-response to my Item Not As Desicribed complaint isn’t going down too well…

I really hope this isn’t a wide-spread operation & that others haven’t been sucked-in by this. But leave a comment if you can shed any light on this. Hopefully this post will help make others aware of this scam.

I’ll post an update when this is resolved one way or the other.

Nintendo Wii

No, the PR guys at Nintendo didn’t wee in their pants - they’re just trying to come up with a ‘next-gen’ worthy name for their console. :P

INTRODUCING … Wii.

As in “we.”While the code-name “Revolution” expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.
