The True Cost of CGI

This is an audio interview from December 2005 last year. An interesting view on the state of Hollywood visual effects.

It’s the same story, visual effects seem to be mandatory in today’s movies to woo crowds into the cinema’s, but they also eat into the budget and may force Directors to use a scene that they don’t really want to, or in a way that they’d prefer not to. But of course if the VFX department was setup properly it would allow the Director to have input throughout the course of the creation of the effects.

Another VFX blog, this one looks pretty good with at least a few shot breakdowns posted. Although it looks like updates have slowed down, it might be one to keep an eye on.

The film Poseidon has called for some advancements in fluid CG.

FX Guide has a nice write-up on how the did it, and a brief interview with Stanford Professor Ron Fedkiw whose research was integrated with ILM’s work.

Check out Crysis, the game engine from CryTek. Everyone will know CryTek’s game Far Cry, which left a big mark in the world of gaming. Looks like they’ve been working on the game engine, and it’s looking the goods.

Gorillaz & Madonna

This is really late, I know. But if you’ve missed it like me, then… now you’ll know. :P

The Mill teamed up with Madonna and Gorillaz at the 48th Grammy Awards to bring the Gorillaz on stage yet again. The Gorillaz performed ‘Feel Good Inc’ before Madonna joined them on stage for a ‘Feel Good’/'Hung Up’ remix.
